ROCHESTER — More than 100 children received gifts as part of the Three Kings Day celebration at Ibero-American Action League’s Family Center.
Members of the Latino Rotary Club distributed the gifts to the children during a family breakfast on Jan. 6 in honor of the Epiphany, said Yesenia Ramos, the Rotary’s service chairwoman who coordinated the event.
Ramos planned the breakfast for the children in Ibero’s child-care program with Ida Pérez, coordinator of Ibero’s early childhood services, as her first service project for the Rotary club.
“I wanted to do something that was representative of our culture but that would also benefit the children of the day care,” she noted in an e-mail. “I hope to make it an annual event.”
Each child received three gifts, she explained. The gifts were donated by Toys for Tots with 10 Rotary members wrapping all the gifts the week after Christmas. The project also became a family affair as her fiancé, Angel Torres, helped with transporting the toys and packages.
