KEUKA — An inauguration ceremony was held last month for Jorge Díaz-Herrera, a native of Venezuela, who is the new president of Keuka College.
Prior to being named president last July, Díaz-Herrera served as dean and professor at Rochester Institute of Technology’s B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences, according to information at http://inauguration.keuka.edu.
He also worked as a professor and department head of computer science at Southern Polytechnic State University in Marietta, Ga., and also was senior member of the technical staff at Carnegie Mellon’s software engineering institute.
A native of Barquisimeto, Venezuela, the new president said during the May 4 inauguration ceremony that a liberal arts foundation is still valuable in today’s economy, according to a press release.
An education with a liberal arts base "allows us to be able to address difficult, global, complex issues by allowing us to place this knowledge in context without compartmentalization," Díaz-Herrera state during the inauguration ceremony. "This is an education that unique places like Keuka can provide, and it’s one of the reasons that drew me to the job."
