University of Rochester aids students displaced by hurricanes

The University of Rochester is inviting up to 12 college students from Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands to continue their undergraduate coursework at the university during the 2018 spring semester.

Rochester welcomes Puerto Ricans fleeing Hurricane Maria’s devastation

The UR’s move is a response to the many colleges and universities on the islands that remain closed following damage from hurricanes Maria and Irma, according to information from the university. As a result, many students have had to suspend their degree programs.

The UR will arrange travel to Rochester for these students and provide on-campus accommodations. The students will not have to pay tuition or room and board and will be able to take the courses that correspond with the academic programs they were enrolled in at their respective universities.

Language support, if needed, also will be available through the university’s partnership with the Cambridge Education Group.

The UR’s admissions office is working with higher-education associations and local and international organizations to reach out to eligible students. For more information, visit https://enrollment.rochester.edu/guest-semester-program.
