Two honored for advancing communities

ALBANY — Rochester City School District’s Interim Superintendent Bolgen Vargas and school board member Melisza Campos were honored during the 25th-anniversary "SOMOS El Futuro" conference last month.

Both were presented special recognition awards for their contributions toward advancing the Puerto Rican and Hispanic communities, according to information from the district.

The three-day conference also included workshops on issues such as health, education and employment, and speakers such as Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand. It is presented annually by the New York State Assembly and Senate’s Puerto Rican and Hispanic Task Force.
