More than 11,000 postcards signed by parishioners this past winter to show support for comprehensive immigration reform were collected and delivered to 11 members of Congress who represent western New York and northern Pennsylvania.
The postcard campaign was developed by the diocese’s Public Policy Committee to call on federal officials to keep immigrant families together, develop humane enforcement policies, and create a registry system and path toward citizenship for undocumented workers, according to information from Ruth Putnam Marchetti, justice-and-peace coordinator for Catholic Charities of the Finger Lakes and Wayne counties.
Additional postcards were mailed directly by parishes and individuals, Putnam Marchetti noted.
