The state Department of Taxation and Finance recently announced the expansion of its free interpretation and translation services.
Tax documents will be available in several languages, including Spanish, Chinese, Russian, Italian and Korean. Taxation staff also can provide translation and interpretation in 37 languages. Information also is available online in Spanish, according to a press release.
The effort stems from an executive order issued last year by Gov. Andrew Cuomo that all state agencies improve their interactions with residents who have limited English proficiency.
Prior to Election Day, the state attorney general’s offices also entered into agreements with several counties to ensure minority language voters would receive the assistance and materials needed to cast their ballots at the polls.
