ROCHESTER — The city’s Board of Education has approved a four-year contract with Superintendent Bolgen Vargas, according to school district officials.
The board confirmed Vargas’ selection as the new superintendent in April nearly a year after he took on the role on an interim basis. The board approved the new contract with an annual salary of $195,000 on June 28. The contract is posted at www.rcsdk12.org.
A Dominican Republic native, Vargas served on the board from 1996 to 2003 and was board president for four of those years, according to district officials. Prior to accepting the interim superintendent job, he worked as a guidance counselor in the Greece school district for more than 20 years.
He received a bachelor’s degree in international studies and a master’s degree in school counseling from SUNY Brockport and earned a doctorate in educational leadership and organization from the University of Pennsylvania.
