IRONDEQUOIT — A map created by second-grade students at the Discovery Charter School will be on display this summer at Harvard University, school officials stated.
The map of the school was first displayed in May at the Expeditionary Learning National Conference in Denver, according to a press release. Discovery, which opened last August for grades kindergarten through second grade, offers a hands-on, in-depth project approach to education.
The second-graders’ project, "Discovering Discovery," began when a parent visited the classroom and could not find the school’s exit, which led to lessons on cartography, three-dimensional models and design. The students’ school map will be displayed at Harvard’s Center for Student Work, which is part of the college’s Graduate School of Education.
