Students to run own credit union

ROCHESTER — Students enrolled in East High School’s Academy of Business Management and Finance will run their own credit union and receive training as bank tellers and customer service and marketing representatives.

The school’s inaugural credit union opened last month, according to information from the Rochester City School District. Advantage Federal Credit Union and the National Academy Foundation will serve as community partners to help students operate the credit union. The academy is one of three career-oriented programs offered at East.

Students at the new credit union will work alongside Advantage staff members to learn how to open accounts and conduct transactions for students and staff.
