School board member named to urban school council

ROCHESTER — Van White, a Rochester City School District board member, was appointed last month as vice president of the Council of Urban Boards of Education (CUBE).

The council represents more than 104 urban districts in 35 states, according to a press release from the Rochester district. Enrollment in those districts total 8 million students.

The mission of CUBE is to assist urban school leaders with finding solutions to local challenges, sharing innovative practices and improving efficiency in policy making.

White has served on the Rochester board for five years and has served as chairman of the Excellence in Student Achievement committee. He also was board vice president in 2008.
