RTS to transport summer school students

ROCHESTER — The Regional Transit Service will provide transportation for Rochester City School District students this summer.

The May 14 announcement by RTS and district officials follows on the heels of RTS discontinuing its partnership with the district at the end of the school year. The latter move followed several student-related incidents at the RTS downtown Transit Center.

As part of the summer school transportation agreement, students will be bused on express buses so they won’t have to transfer at the center, RTS officials said .

The district also is proposing that RTS restore bus service to city students during the regular school year, given the reduction in the number of buses needed from 120 to 71 and a new tiered dismissal schedule for the 2015-16 year, according to a letter from the district.
