ROCHESTER — The Rochester Transit Authority will offer free rides for anyone who takes a bus from or transfers from its new Transit Center from Nov. 28 until the end of the year.
The company is providing the free fares as an incentive for new and returning customers as the community adjusts to route changes following the center’s opening, according to RTS officials. A dedication ceremony with local, state and federal officials was held Oct. 20.
"The redesign of our routes will allow us to get the right level of service to the streets," stated Bill Carpenter, chief executive officer. "And Transit Center customers will be able to arrive, wait and depart in a safe, warm, comfortable and attractive indoor facility."
Beginning on Jan. 1, regular pricing will resume at $1 per ride. Customers in need of a transfer will also pay $1 per ride, or they can purchase an all-day, unlimited ride pass for $3. All customers who must continue their trip beyond the Transit Center will be required to transfer to their next bus. After the Transit Center’s opening, an additional 7 percent of the RTS’ 20,000 daily customers will need to transfer, company officials said.
