Roof repair assistance is available

ROCHESTER — City homeowners may be eligible for financial assistance to cover roof repairs.

The city’s $1.7 million Owner-Occupant Roofing program began in January as the first of two rounds of funding. Grants cover the cost of roof replacements and related repairs on gutters, downspouts, roof flashing and chimneys.

Program applicants must own a single-family residential property located in the city, meet income guidelines and have no outstanding tax liens. Homeowners also must live at the property for three years after receiving assistance.

Sixty-eight applicants were randomly selected to receive the initial grants over the winter. Those who did not receive grants are automatically entered in the second drawing to be held on May 27 at the Thomas P. Ryan Community Center, 530 Webster Ave. Applicants do not need to be present for the drawing.
