Rochester a step closer to ‘Intelligent Community’ designation

ROCHESTER — The city of Rochester has been selected to move forward to the next stage of the Intelligent Community Awards.

Rochester is the only U.S. city named as an Intelligent Community Forum (ICF) Smart21 semifinalist from a pool of 400 entries, according to information from city officials. Rochester is now in the running for an "Intelligent Community of the Year" designation to be announced in June.

The forum is a global think tank that aims to connect cities and regions for collaboration on economic development and exchange of expertise and information. The ICF investigates how communities use various types of technology to build prosperity, solve social problems and improve their residents’ quality of life.

Nominations are based on several factors, including broadband availability and quality, knowledge of the local workforce, government innovation, and advocacy on behalf of and led by citizens.
