Refugee health conference to be held locally

ROCHESTER — The three-day North American Refugee Healthcare Conference will be held later this month.

Workshops during the conference, which will begin June 28 at the Radisson Rochester Riverside Hotel, will focus on a variety of health and cultural topics including primary care, mental health, pediatrics and gynecological treatment for refugees as well as cultural competency, according to information at www.refugeehealthcareconference.com.

More than 400 people from 29 states attended last year’s conference.

The conference’s keynote speakers are Eskinder Negash, who is director of the Office of Refugee Resettlement that is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services; and Dr. Martin Cetron, director for the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s division of global migration and quarantine.
