Rates of property, violent crimes down

ROCHESTER — The Rochester Police Department recently released crime statistics for 2013 that show a pattern of record low rates of property and violent crimes.

The property crime level — which includes larcenies and motor vehicle thefts — was the lowest in 25 years, and aggravated assaults were down 8.5 percent, according to an RPD report. But homicides increased to 42 deaths from 36 in 2012. Robberies also increased by 10 percent over 2012, but the total number of 905 robberies was the sixth lowest in the past 25 years.
