The 42nd-annual Puerto Rican Festival will be held Aug. 5-7 at the Frontier Field VIP lot. This year’s theme is "Celebrating the Latina Woman."
The entertainment lineup includes performances from Ivy Queen, Lisette Meléndez, Judy Torres, Las Chicas del Can and Milly Quezada, Victoria Sanabria and India. Additionally, local bands and dance groups will perform. Other events will include youth boxing, the domino tournament, children’s activities, an agency fair and the introduction of Miss Puerto Rico of Rochester’s pageant 2011 queen and princess.
This year the festival’s last day will end at 7:30 p.m., which is earlier than in past years, according to Orlando Ortiz, festival board president. He noted that the earlier end time is intended to help curb the violence in the neighborhoods around North Clinton Avenue that has plagued the festival closing for years.
