ROCHESTER — A new city school district policy guarantees placement for kindergarten-age children whose families live within a half-mile of the neighborhood elementary school to which they’re applying.
The "RCSD Home School Guarantee" was unveiled during a school expo held last month to offer information and performances by students in the Rochester City School District. Students entering kindergarten from one of the district’s school-based preschool programs also will receive top priority for placement after those families that live within the half-mile, according to district officials.
The new policy only applies to the district’s 32 neighborhood elementary schools, and not the nine citywide elementary-school programs. Families from any neighborhood can attend the citywide schools if they secure a spot by entering a lottery.
The application deadline is March 1. For more information, call 585-262-8241 or visit www.rcsdk12.org.
