An outreach worker from Farmworker Legal Services of New York, a nonprofit organization based in Rochester, was part of a delegation of U.S. rural women chosen to participate in the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women.
Alina Díaz, an outreach paralegal, raised issues about farmworkers and human trafficking during sessions that took place last spring in New York City, according to a press release from the Rural Development Leadership Network. The network of activists and community builders also hosted discussions and created a "rural caucus" to provide an ongoing forum for rural women worldwide.
