HENRIETTA — Nineteen area Latino professionals recently graduated from the United Way of Greater Rochester’s Latino Leadership Development Program.
During the Sept. 30 commencement luncheon for the 34th-annual program, the graduates were encouraged to stay engaged in service and fulfill their potential as community leaders.
"You come from different walks of life but you share a commitment and a passion with each other to make a difference in our community," said Tabita Torres, LLDP’s director.
Also during the event, United Way presented Ivette Torres with the Circulo Latino Community Leadership Award. She is a longtime volunteer with several area organizations, including a Junior Achievement chapter.
Torres, a public affairs lead analyst with Rochester Gas & Electric, said participating in LLDP changed her life.
"It gave me the tools and resources to help me discover my true passion, which for me is supporting our youth," she said of her LLDP experience. "And of course, I’ve gotten back so much more than I’ve ever given to them."
