Ground broken for El Camino Estates

ROCHESTER — Developers of El Camino Estates, a subdivision of 25 single-family affordable homes, held a groundbreaking ceremony last month.

The ceremony was held May 13 on Conkey Avenue at the site of one of the homes in northeast Rochester. The ceremony was led by representatives from Ibero-American Development Corp. and Rochester Cornerstone Group, which have worked in partnership on the project along with the Genesee Land Trust. Rochester Mayor Robert Duffy and Hilda Rosario Escher, president and chief executive officer of Ibero-American Action League, also attended.

"This project is significant," Mayor Duffy said. "Building these new housing units and making them energy efficient and affordable is a win-win for the city and its residents."

Construction of the homes should be completed by January 2011.

Families who earn less than 50 percent of the area’s median household income qualify to purchase one of the homes. Applications may be submitted to the IADC office at 954 Clifford Ave. For more information, call 585-467-6410 or visit www.iberodevelopment.org/divisions/iadc/index.html.
