Festival focuses on Latinas

ROCHESTER — This year’s Puerto Rican Festival, which will be held during the first weekend of August, will celebrate the Latina woman.

The 42nd-annual three-day event will be held at Frontier Field for the fifth year in a row. In addition to local bands, dance groups and youth boxing, the Aug. 5-7 festival will feature such international performers as Ivy Queen, Las Chicas del Can, Milly Quezada and India, according to a press release from the festival’s board of directors.

On Aug. 5, the second-annual 5K Race & Walk — which has been named in memory of Javier Rivera-Ortiz, brother of festival president Orlando Ortiz, and other fallen soldiers — will begin and end at Frontier.

Tickets for the festival are $10 and $25 for a three-day pass; and $5 for seniors and children older than 5. For more information, visit www.prfestival.com.
