ROCHESTER — Borrowing a page from Theology on Tap, diocesan officials are planning a series of gatherings for young Latinos this summer.
The series’ title "Friday Diálogos" is purposely Spanglish because most young Latinos converse in English and Spanish, explained Elizabeth Johnston, intercultural program specialist for diocesan Parish & Clergy Services’ Office of Cultural Diversity. The sessions will alternate between the languages, she added.
The diocese’s Pastoral Juvenil committee planned the series, which will include discussions on why attending Mass is important and what messages the Bible has for young people.
The sessions will be held twice a month in June, July and August, beginning June 6, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Ticas with a Twist, 280 Exchange Blvd., Rochester.
"Young adults are in the social scene," Johnston said. "You have to go to them. The pope says we have to smell like our sheep. … So we have to go out so they don’t have to be afraid to approach us."
