Cultural organization honors two

GATES — Latinos de Corazón, a nonprofit organization dedicated to education and performances about Latino culture, honored two community members during its second-annual gala.

Berardo Jurado received the Father Laurence Tracy Humanitarian Award during the Jan. 30 gala held at The Diplomat for his volunteer work with inmates, according to information from Latinos de Corazón. Tricia Cruz-Irving received the Community Unification Award for her work to integrate English as a second language organizations into the community.

The event also featured a special performance, "The Story of the Fan," that included dances from Panama, Mexico, Spain and Puerto Rico, as well as a spoken-word performance by Annette Ramos accompanied by violist Alexander Peña.

The gala helps support the cost of costumes and rehearsal space for the organization.
