Community groups recognized for work in Rochester neighborhoods

Two community groups were recognized last month for their efforts to have a positive impact on Rochester neighborhoods.

The Community Design Center Rochester presented awards to the community groups Nov. 16 during its seventh-annual Reshaping Rochester Awards event held at Temple B’rith Kodesh in Brighton.

The Betty Strasenburgh Award for Activism was presented to the founders of the Joseph Avenue Arts and Culture Alliance, which is working to create a performing and visual arts center in a landmark building that formerly housed a synagogue on Joseph Avenue.

R Community Bikes Inc. received an honorable mention for the Strasenburgh award for its work to improve transportation options for city residents by providing bikes and repairs to financially struggling neighborhood residents.
