ROCHESTER — Rochester Police Chief James Sheppard was honored last month by his alma mater, Empire State College.
Sheppard, who received a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and community service from the college in 1999, received the recognition during the May 15 Genesee Valley Center’s annual award celebration, according to information from the college. The event was held at the Memorial Art Gallery.
Sheppard received the "Award for Outstanding Leadership and Service to the Community" demonstrated by his philosophy of "policing in the spirit of service," which has been adopted by the police department, stated Dean Jonathan Franz. Sheppard also has created a leadership development program for his officers, Franz noted.
