ROCHESTER — Latinas Unidas will celebrate its 20th-annual Reconocimiento Awards with an appearance by a national author.
Esmerelda Santiago, author of When I was Puerto Rican, will serve as they keynote speaker during the awards ceremony that recognizes local Latina leaders. The event will be held March 28 at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center.
The honorees are: Mercedes Vázquez Simmons, owner and president of Pretty Girl Productions-Boxing, for career achievement; Gloria Sabastro, president of Rochester City School District’s Bilingual Council, for volunteer service; Annette Ramos, education services manager for Young Audiences of Rochester, for leadership achievement; and Natalie Hoppe as young Latina leader.
Additionally this spring, Latinas Unidas will host the annual ¡Soy Única! ¡Soy Latina! rally to empower Latina girls ages 7 to 18 at Nazareth College on April 19.
