ROCHESTER — A local community activist has been confirmed as a board member on the Rochester Housing Authority.
Rosemary Rivera, organizing director for Citizen Action of New York, was elected to the board during RHA’s monthly meeting on Feb. 25. Mayor Lovely Warren said that she had nominated Rivera to the board during a January forum with the Latino community at St. Michael Church in response to a question about a lack of board representation.
"Rivera will be a strong addition to this important board, and I look forward to working with her to ensure all residents have access to quality housing," Warren said in an e-mail.
The RHA has been in flux since last fall. Shawn Burr of Spencerport, who has served as the RHA’s director of development and capital projects since 2008, was named interim director in January. He replaced City Councilman Adam McFadden, who served on an interim basis following the dismissal of Alex Castro as executive director on Oct. 14.
