Staff Photographer Tamara Tirado participated in a Jan. 27 to Feb. 3 Mexico familiarization trip for members of the Catholic Press Association. The trip, which featured tours of Mexico City, Puebla and Oaxaca, was hosted by the Mexico Tourism Board, Destination Management Services and Regina Tours. Mexico is the second-largest Roman Catholic country in the world after Brazil, and the tours of the cities highlighted how Catholicism is central to Mexican history and culture. The group visited the old and new basilicas at the shrine of Guadalupe, the pyramids of Teotihuacan, the archaeological site of Monte Alban, the Museum of Anthropology, and several historical churches and cathedrals central to each city on the tour.
