Rural & Migrant Ministry led a statewide caravan Aug. 2-9 titled “Save New York’s Rural Economy: A Journey of Empathy.” The goal of the event, which was cosponsored by the New York State Catholic Conference, was to foster an appreciation for immigrants by highlighting their humanity and emphasizing their positive impact in New York’s rural economy and agriculture. The caravan passed through more than 50 communities in New York state and made a stop in Rochester Aug. 9 for a vigil at the gravesite of Frederick Douglass in Rochester’s Mount Hope Cemetery.
