Bishop Salvatore R. Matano addressed the topic of immigration in a Jan. 30 letter to Catholics of the Diocese of Rochester. The letter was distributed to pastors that day.
Bishop Matano acknowledged the importance of maintaining secure borders and the need for immigration reform, while at the same time cautioning against unfairly painting entire groups of people with a broad brush.
The bishop also stressed the need for lawmakers to be rational and reasonable when undertaking immigration reform.
