Parishes celebrate Three Kings Day

BROCKPORT — The annual Three Kings Day celebration at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church included distribution of gifts to nearly 30 area children.

The gifts were collected by members of parishes in Genesee County in the Diocese of Buffalo, said Penny Gardner, diocesan migrant minister for the Brockport area. Father Ivan Trujillo, who celebrated the Spanish Mass of the Epiphany on Jan. 3, delivered the gifts that Gardner distributed. Father Trujillo is pastor of Resurrection Parish’s St. Mary worship site.

"We had food, we had presents," Gardner remarked. "It was fun. I can tell it’s a feast that is very meaningful to the people."

The feast is celebrated throughout Latin America on Jan. 6. Other local parishes also held Masses in Spanish on the feast day including Rochester’s Holy Apostles Church, where a reception followed the Mass.
