Beginning in the fall of 2020, Rochester City School District students who enroll in St. John Fisher College will be eligible for the college’s new Urban Scholar Award.
The new scholarship, announced in October, will award incoming students $10,000 annually throughout their four years of study. All students from local charter and public schools and Urban-Suburban programs who enroll at Fisher will receive the award.
The Urban Scholars also will have access to a mentoring program, as well as internship or experiential learning opportunities connected to their major.
Stacy Ledermann, Fisher’s director of freshman admissions, said the scholarship was developed to expand access to higher education to any student within the City of Rochester who is interested in attending Fisher.
“We are always looking for ways to expand access and make a Fisher education affordable to students who seek it. Our hope is that this scholarship provides additional opportunities for students from the City of Rochester to join the Fisher community and pursue their academic goals here,” said Ledermann.
The college also hopes that through continued recruitment efforts the diversity of students on campus will increase in classes to come, she said.
