The Rochester City School District will conduct a public hearing regarding the Contract for Excellence next month.
The Contract for Excellence is based on New York state law that requires school districts to develop a plan to improve academic achievement, particularly for students with the greatest academic needs, according to information from the district. The district’s plan for the 2017-18 contract is available at www.rcsdk12.org/c4e.
The plan includes extended day and extended school year programs for students who are not demonstrating proficiency on state assessments, as well as boosting services for English language learners through the bilingual and English for Speakers of Other Languages departments’ teachers and support staff. More than 4,000 students in the district are English language learners and speak more than 80 languages.
The school board’s hearing on the contract plan will be held Sept. 28 5:30 p.m. at the Central Office Building, 131 W. Broad St. That date also is the deadline for any public comments, which will be submitted as a transcript with the district’s plan.
