The Rochester City School District has been awarded a $524,559 grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.
According to information from the district, the Kellogg Foundation seeks to improve academic achievement at the primary grades level in urban, high-needs elementary school districts. The foundation promotes a K-3 math curriculum that increases the amount of teacher-led, small-group instruction and opportunities for professional development.

The funding will provide for small-group math instruction for 10,000 students in 25 city elementary schools for a 16-month period, according to district officials.
The district is currently in its second year of implementing Zearn Mathematics and will use the foundation funding to increase access to the individualized teaching model, boost professional development for teachers, and further develop parent outreach, communication and engagement.
