New superintendent named

ROCHESTER –The deputy superintendent of the East High School-University of Rochester partnership has been named the superintendent. He began his new job Sept. 1.

Shaun Nelms has served as the deputy superintendent since February when the New York state education department approved East’s educational partnership with the University of Rochester, according to an East High press release. As deputy superintendent, Nelms has overseen the hiring of staff and the day-to-day operations. He succeeds Stephen Uebbing, who will remain as the UR’s project director for the partnership.</P>

Nelms, who previously served as deputy superintendent of the Greece Central School District, also serves on the Rochester-Monroe Anti-Poverty Initiative’s steering committee.
