State of the Latinx Community event eyes homeownership

Homeownership and financial empowerment will be the focus of Ibero-American Action League’s 2022 State of the Latinx Community luncheon.

The luncheon will take place virtually via Zoom Oct. 17 from noon to 1:30 p.m.

This year’s keynote speakers will be Lautaro “Lot” Díaz, vice president of housing and financial empowerment at UnidosUS, and Alex Castro, CEO and president of Pathstone.

Díaz leads UnidosUS Wealth and Housing Alliance and UnidosUS Financial Empowerment Network, which serves more than 65,000 families nationally, and more than 90 percent of them are from communities of color. He also founded a related development organization and is the current board chair of Hogar Hispano Inc., which, during the foreclosure crisis, bought and sold distressed assets to create affordable homeownership and to prevent foreclosures.

Castro oversees real estate development, property management, housing services and direct services for Pathstone. His operations expand from New York to Indiana, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, Vermont and Virginia. Previously, he was the executive director of the Rochester Housing Authority and executive director of the Housing Council, prior to that.
