This year’s group of Hispanic Scholars will be honored during the 50th-anniversary celebration of Ibero-American Action League.
The keynote speaker for the June 9 event at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center will be J.R. Martínez, an Iraq War veteran, actor and winner of “Dancing with the Stars,” according to information from Ibero.
Applications are currently being accepted for the Hispanic Scholarship Endowment Fund, which is run by Ibero. High-school seniors with at least a 3.0 grade-point average who live in Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Wayne or Erie counties are eligible. The deadline for applications is March 5.
Last year, a record-breaking 86 students were chosen to receive scholarship awards based on their academic achievements, community service and personal essays. The scholarships are awarded by the Hispanic Scholarship Endowment Fund, as well as by area colleges, community organizations, individuals and companies.
