Rochester’s Borinquen Dance Theatre celebrates 40 years

Borinquen Dance Theatre will host a special anniversary gala next month to celebrate 40 years of dance instruction and programs in Rochester.

The event, Dance Fusion & Beyond, which is set for Nov. 6, will include live performances, video retrospectives, dinner and a silent auction beginning at 6 p.m. The celebration will take place at the Harro East Ballroom in Rochester.

Additionally, the gala will be dedicated to Borinquen instructors and members who have passed away in recent years such as Diana M. Ortiz, Gloria A. Lopez; Ruthie Diaz Emmonds, and Christopher Morrison.

Borinquen Dance Theatre was founded in 1981 by Nydia Padilla-Rodriguez. The organization teaches the dance style of Puerto Rico, blending Taino-Arawak, Spanish and African influences with modern Latin styles within its programs. Over the years the program has taught more than 1,000 students.
