Latino theater group stages ‘In the Heights’

ROCHESTER — The Rochester Latino Theatre Company and OFC Productions will present the musical "In the Heights," later this month at the Rochester Area Performing Arts East End Theatre.

The show, which won a Tony Award for best musical in 2008 and was a Pulitzer Prize finalist, delves into such universal themes as being true to oneself and discovering one’s place in the world, according to information from RLTC. The musical is set in a primarily Hispanic neighborhood in New York City’s Washington Heights. Its score features a variety of Latin-inspired musical styles from rap to salsa to ballads.

Adele Fico, who was one of the first inductees into the Rochester Theatre Hall of Fame, will play the role of "Abuela Claudia," said Annette Ramos, executive director for RLTC. The musical is the theater company’s most ambitious project to date, with a cast of more than 25 local actors, Ramos added.

Performances will be held May 22-24, May 30-31 and June 1 at RAPA’s 727 E. Main St. location. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for students. For more information, call 585-325-3366 or visit http://rapatheatre.org.
