ROCHESTER — Temperatures below 30 degrees did not keep residents away from the inaugural Holiday Market at La Marketa that took place at the International Plaza Dec. 9.
The festivities opened with a speech by site manager Jessica Del Valle before musical performances from such artists as Trulla 585. The celebration also featured a tree lighting, vendors, free hot chocolate and a holiday photo station where photos could be taken with Santa.
Resident Gladys Rivera wore a cross-body purse featuring a coquí, or a brown frog, that is native to Puerto Rico. She said she had purchased the purse from a vendor before the tree lighting.
According to Rivera, the purse reminded her of home, since she was born and lived on the island prior to moving to Rochester as a result of Hurricane Maria. Despite cold fingers, she said she enjoyed the music and atmosphere.
