A couple of months ago, my 20-year-old brother, Enrigue Ruiz Jr., decided to join the army. Ricky, as he is better known, is a 2008 graduate of Bishop Kearney High School, and he completed two years at Monroe Community College in December 2010.
Since he was born, he has been an active member at the former Holy Redeemer/St Francis Xavier Church (which became part of Our Lady of the Americas parish). Being involved as an alter server and in youth group, he became very well known and loved by our Hispanic community.
This has been a happy but sad time for us. My sister, Aida Ruiz, my parents, Enrique and Milagros Ruiz, and I will be having a farewell party for my brother on April 9th beginning at 4 p.m. at Sea Breeze Fire Hall, 4657 Culver Road.
Ricky is the youngest of our family and the only boy. So it has been extremely hard on us, especially on my parents. We are so proud of him. And we know with God’s guidance that he can hurry up and come home safe.
