Christmas parade features music, tree lighting

ROCHESTER — Principal José Mora served as the pied piper as he led a group of bilingual second-graders from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. School No. 9 to St. Michael Church a week before Christmas.

The children also sang "Feliz Navidad" and "El Burrito Sabanero" following Santa’s appearance on a Rochester Fire Department truck that served as the caboose for a Dec. 15 police, ambulance and fire truck parade down North Clinton Avenue. An older group of students from Henry Lomb School No. 20 also sang.

The event, which was organized by staff from the Hispanic Community Center at Los Flamboyanes, culminated with a tree lighting in front of the Generations Day Care adjacent to the church on Clifford and North Clinton avenues.

Ten-year-old Juan Justiniano said that the parade and singing were "cool" but he had stopped believing in Santa Claus.

"My mom knows what I want," he said with a smile.
