Blood drive to be held in memory of Rochester police officer

All are invited to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by donating blood in memory of a Rochester Police Department officer.

The Hispanic Heritage Committee of Rochester, PODER 97.1 radio, the Rochester Police Department and the City of Rochester are sponsoring a Hispanic Heritage and Sickle Cell Awareness Blood Drive Sept. 24. The blood drive will take place at Ibero-American Action League’s Community Resource Center, 216 Clifford Ave., from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The drive is being held in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month and in memory of Rochester Police Officer Manuel Ortiz, who died unexpectedly in 2019 at the age of 52. He was a 22-year veteran of the Rochester Police Department.

Those interested in donating blood are asked to schedule appointments by calling the Red Cross at 1-800-733-2767 or visiting RedCrossBlood.org.
