District names new bilingual education director

Analy Cruz-Phommany became the new director of bilingual education for the Rochester City School District July 26.
 
Cruz-Phommany is a former English language learner who is originally from the Dominican Republic and is a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School.
 
She began her career in the Rochester City School District as a bilingual prekindergarten teacher. She also served students as a bilingual fifth-grade teacher for eight years and then three years as an instructional coach at Enrico Fermi School No. 17, where she assisted in establishing a bilingual vertical team and served on the School-Based Planning Team. She worked as assistant director of summer LEAP at Allendale Columbia School to provide continuity for School No. 17 students who participate in an extended school year.
 
Cruz-Phommany has a bachelor’s degree in early childhood and childhood education from SUNY Cortland and is a part of Cortland’s Urban Recruitment of Educators (CURE) Program. She also has a master’s degree in teaching English as a second language from Nazareth College and a master’s degree in school district leadership from the University of Rochester.
